Richard Satava
R. Grey Gallery is now representing glass artist Richard Satava. Richard was first introduced to glassblowing in high school, later moving on to study art and glassblowing at the College of San Mateo and California State University, Chico. In the early 1990’s, Richard visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium and, after viewing Pacific Coast jellyfish in an exceptional setting, much like an art gallery, he began his quest to make jellyfish out of glass.
After three years of experimenting with various formulas to achieve the translucent colors needed to make the jellyfish, the series was ready to display in 1995. The moon jellyfish has become one of his most successful creations, and is now displayed and sold in galleries and
aquariums all over the country.
Richard uses ancient techniques to create original designs in handblown glass. He creates each one-of-a-kind piece from glass he has formulated and made himself. |
